With a recent release of a movie adaptation, which I have not seen, I was inspired to read the book. Seeing only the movie trailer, I lowered my expectations. And if you’ve read the book, you would understand my surprise when I finished the book in a day wanting more!
1. For a book written in the 1980s, it’s surprisingly accurate about the internet. Talk about prescience!
2. No forced love story like other YA novels.
3. The switch between narrators was gripping. Not knowing who the narrator is makes you want to pay attention more to who is speaking.
I guess I’m really a sucker for underdogs who get the victory in the end, but Ender’s smart, but still-has-a-heart character really draws you in. Look past the lack of women heroines and news about Orson Scott Card and just immerse yourself in the book and I’m sure you’ll love it too.
