My artistic friend Kat launched her date book last Oct 25, 2014 at Heima. It’s been a while since I got to attend a social gathering of artistic souls. Felt so inspired and so proud of Kat sharing her love for the Lord through this amazing planner. I’d love for you to check out the daykeeper yourself -> facebook. I myself am getting my own copy this year!
Rosee: “Guess what? We have to do marketing efforts for work using… wait for it… FACEBOOK” #TrueStory
This meant that I am going to make do without facebook for 26 more days on my own. I still hold Zyra and Rosee accountable, mainly because I don’t even know my password. *Hi girls 🙂 *
Call me weird, but I felt a warm embrace from God when I got the news. Now I am one special gal who’s going to tell His story of victory over the world through a very small endeavor. Okay, you might also say that it’s such an easy challenge, well, not for someone like me who used facebook every single day. Cold turkey. Not easy. But totally worth it.
I read through Daniel 1 where Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah joined King Nebuchadnezzar’s service. They were going to undergo training and was being assigned a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table v5. Daniel was a prophet and in the whole book his visions always showed God as triumphant.
Daniel 1:8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.
The Israelites considered the food from Nebuchadnezzar’s table unclean because the first portions were offered to the idols. So Daniel, holding the law true, asked to be fed nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink v12 for 10 days. After 10 days, he was able prove to everyone that they looked healthier than those who ate the royal food. So they were not offered the royal food anymore but was given their choice of food.
Daniel refusing to eat the royal food and drink the wine really inspired me to stick to my convictions. As I read through the whole chapter, I was really encouraged by the fact that God can use my petty commitment of giving up facebook an opportunity to bring Him honor and praise. I am so humbled to be reminded of how costly it is to follow Jesus but it is totally worth it. So I’ll chase Him through the pain, commit to my cause and carry His cross.
As I devote myself to reading His word consistently, praying passionately and writing as the Holy Spirit leads, I hope to bless others as well. So feel free to send your prayer requests at email@example.com I would love to pray for all of you!
While I was having my monday morning breakfast, I thought of calling this post Beyond messy. I am so glad I finished my meal first, did my quiet time and then decided on the title, cause it was so one crappy title. A little back story, I work from 8PM – 5AM so I only get to eat proper breakfast meals on Mondays. And I appreciate these moments so much that I am a little teary eyed when I see my eggs and coffee. ❤
Now let’s all move past my unhealthy love for breakfast. Nov 1, 2014 I resolved to fast from twitter, instagram and facebook. I can’t remember when it happened, but it did. Suddenly, Rosee and I found ourselves letting Zyra change our facebook passwords. It sounds kind of extreme, but that’s how much we needed to be accountable to someone that we won’t check facebook.
Day 1 was torture for me. I honestly couldn’t sleep and I kept thinking about my social media presence. I felt beyond lost. That’s when I saw God’s hand in everything. Day 2 came and I went to sunday service where the message was about Pleasing God in EVERYTHING. His voice was so loud. He was getting the message across. Angel, you are not pleasing me in your private online social media life. For those who heard the message, it talked about 4 points. (1) Pleasing God in your family, (2) at work, (3) in your private life and (4) even when it gets hard.
2 Corinthians 5:9-10 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
Whether we are at home or away or checking our feeds, our aim is to please God. God could’ve just allowed me to be lost in my social media bubble, but day 3 came and I just feel so free, so refreshed, beyond blessed.
I haven’t miss a day yet of reading and writing and praying. I read everyday, but I used to find it hard to write consistently. I’m sure my victory today and my victory 27 days from now will only be through God’s grace. I started this thing and didn’t even know what I was praying for exactly. When I prayed, and prayed more, God led me to Psalm 19:7.
… The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing to the soul
As I pray for the refreshment of my soul, I zone in on God. Beyond our social media bubbles, the world is spinning, the word is living. Try it, for a day or a week, burst that bubble. My prayer for you and I is that we find ourselves pleasing before God in everything.
So, I did a Reading Challenge a few months back for 2014. So far, not so good. Haha! I stopped writing reviews and I just read. My goodreads knows how good I am at reading, but you all know how bad I am at writing about what I’ve read. Anyway, here’s my pile now. I resolved to read clean by reading books that, by my own definition, are clean. More about that next time.
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
Radical by David Platt. I finished it last Oct 22, 2014.
What do you think you’ll read next?
I am honestly in between books. Heehee. On my iPad, I am reading You and me forever by Francis Chan. So might officially make it as my next book “to read”.
I love clean reading. I love that I am saturated by books that bring me closer to God. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Plus, it’s kind-of inspiring me to blog again, not that I ever stopped writing. Let’s just see.
